Chipotle is partnering with The Farmlink Project to donate 10 million meals to food banks during this holiday season.
The Farmlink Project is a grassroots nonprofit movement of students from colleges and universities across the country to connect farms to food banks, feed those in need while supporting vital jobs.
The organization raises outside funds to collect surplus food from farms and supplies and ship it to communities in need.
To help raise awareness of the nonprofit’s work, The Farmlink Project will be distributing 1,000 free Chipotle burrito codes for every 1,000 new followers on its Instagram page, up to 5,000.
Chipotle also encourages its utility network, employees, and guests to do their part through activities like donating excess crops, volunteering time, or providing resources to ensure food is not wasted.
Fast casual chain guests can make a difference by using Chipotle’s real change functionality and rounding up their bill to the next higher dollar amount when ordering through the application or Chipotle.com.
Chris Brandt, Chipotle’s chief marketing officer, said in a statement, “It is incredibly inspiring to know that a group of college students recognized a problem and immediately developed a scalable solution that helps people in need and reduces waste. We are excited to partner with The Farmlink Project and use our network of growers to expedite their mission to feed the hungry this holiday season. “
