I’m an Assistant Professor of Journalism and Creative Media Industry at Texas Tech University. I was born in Pakistan and worked as a news reporter for both print and electronic media for over eight years. My observations on social media and society have appeared in national and international media. I received my MS in Mass Communication (2007-09) from the University of Kansas and a PhD in Mass Communication and Journalism (2009-2014) from the University of Iowa. As an academic, I write about social media and digital social movements, artificial intelligence, cross-cultural media practices, mediated public diplomacy, and how information and communication technologies are helping to change the general dynamics of human face-to-face communication becoming virtual. My 2020 book “Movements for Change: How Individuals, Social Media and Al Jazeera are Changing Pakistan, Egypt and Tunisia” (Peter Lang Publishing) examines digital social movements in the context of digital media. I live and work in Texas.
