In the November 2020 survey, we received responses from 1,229,948,224 websites on 263,787,870 unique domains and 10,564,577 web computers. This equates to a gain of 24.2 million locations and 115,000 computers, but a loss of 310,000 domains.
Apache now powers 28.9% of the world’s top million websites, which has grown by 6,431 websites since last month. This has extended its lead over its closest competitor, nginx, which lost 2,563 locations from the top million and is now 3.72 percentage points behind Apache’s leading stake.
nginx continues to dominate in web-facing computers, where its total number rose by 88,700 to 3.67 million (+ 2.48%) computers and its share rose 0.47 percentage points to 34.7%. Although Apache won 24,400 computers this month, its own share has now dropped to less than a third.
nginx also maintains its lead in two other metrics with a total of 414 million sites (33.7% share) and 79.8 million domains (30.3%), while Apache still has the largest share of active sites (25.9%) ).
The number of domains operated by Microsoft web servers again fell noticeably this month and fell by 473,000 to 19.1 million (-2.41%), which reduced their share to 7.25%. Part of that decline is still due to GoDaddy’s parked domains being moved to OpenResty web servers.
More than 36 million unique domains are served by OpenResty. This makes OpenResty the third most popular server for this metric and is more than 15 million domains ahead of Cloudflare. OpenResty is a scalable web platform based on NGINX and LuaJIT, a just-in-time compiler for the Lua language.
Some of OpenResty’s most visited sites are Tumblr, Firefox Monitor, Basecamp, and some adult video sites. The 36.6 million domains operated by OpenResty are served by only 81,900 computers.

- Apache Tomcat 7.0.107, 8.5.60, 9.0.40, and 10.0.0.M10 were released on November 17th.
- OpenLiteSpeed 1.7.6 was released on November 9th, followed by OpenLiteSpeed 1.6.18 stable on November 24th.
