“Dear Joe Biden” is making the rounds on Twitter, and it started after consumer advocate and environmental activist Erin Brockovich posted a comment for the Guardian newspaper entitled “Dear Joe Biden: Are you kidding me?” Has written. In the article, she asked how the president-elect might get a former DuPont advisor to join his Environmental Protection Agency transition body.

While Brockovich’s letter was actually just the latest “Dear Joe” -style letter to appear since Biden was declared the 2020 presidential race winner, the tweets started in earnest shortly after the story was published. Many were merely declarations of support, but the tweets also highlighted how deeply divided this nation is after such a controversial election.

Twitter user Wes Lassiter (@lassiter_wes) was one of those who simply offered congratulations and support: “Dear Joe Biden, Almost 80 million voters support you and you won the electoral college by a landslide. We’ll have your back 100% of the time . “

Others were far more hostile and showed little or no interest in reconciliation – forgetting that more than 70 million Americans had voted for Trump while the GOP also got house seats and will likely retain control of the Senate.

Writer Rob Greene (@rwwgreene) took a hard line calling on President-elect Biden not to work towards reconciliation Republicans? Do not do that. “

Greene was among those who appear to believe that the president-elect will have powers that allow him not to cooperate with the other side. Without compromise in such a divided country, such action is likely to only widen that gap and lead to a political deadlock.

While Biden has said he doesn’t want his presidency to be consumed by his predecessor’s investigations into which he suspected could further divide the country he is trying to unite, some of his supporters are calling for such efforts. @rhodafromfloda suggested, “Dear Joe Biden Since Republicans are the” law and order “crowd, let’s say we pursue the criminal trump card and its enablers to the fullest extent of the law. And don’t be too nice when you put them in the police car stuck – by Trump. “

Not all friendly

There was also a lot of anger against Biden. A former Democratic user (@ Sob916) exclaimed the president-elect, “You made a promise to the American people in the last debate that you would not claim the presidency until every state was certified! What happened to that promise? Another # LyinBiden! “

@goodyweaver quoted Brockovich’s letter, adding, “LMAO at mainstream libraries and progressives suddenly realizes that Biden is calling a number of lobbyists, destroyers and fascists to his cabinet – and is SURPRISED at the event.”

@FlandersOFC added, “Dear Joe Biden, no one is surprised that you are as corrupt as all the other presidents. People who say otherwise are naive and stupid. They do, but make sure the drone strikes the bud slow it down.”

Others, who seem to support Biden in principle, have been vocal about his decisions for his transition team, particularly on an issue as important as the environment.

“Dear Joe Biden, your job is to represent the people, not the companies. Find out,” @HangDangle tweeted.

@Vsansome shared the feeling, “Dear Joe Biden, I voted for you because I believed in you and I hate Trump, but I’m an environmentalist first and foremost. So it’s a terrible look to pick someone to work on, those to defend that destroy the planet. ” and weakens my trust in you. “

Wants to listen to Biden

The question is whether Biden, or anyone on his team at all, pays attention to such tweets. The fact remains, however, that just like businesses are now exposed to the wrath of a tweet or social media comment that can go viral, this recent “Dear Joe Biden” news shows what the real population is thinking, even before the elected President Biden is sworn in.

If anything, maybe politicians could use social media to see how voters are actually feeling. Biden should now take the time to suggest that his supporters focus on reconciliation, not retaliation, while taking the advice of not only those who wrote a comment but also those who read it.
