YouTube Rewind Placed on Pause for 2020

The coronavirus claimed another casualty when YouTube said Thursday that it won’t produce an annual YouTube return video for the first time since its debut in 2010.

YouTube Rewind is the generally well-received roundup on Google’s video page at the end of the year, with the exception of the 2018 version which set the all-time YouTube record for dislikes.

“Since 2010, we’ve ended the year with Rewind: a look back at the most impactful creators, videos and trends of the year,” said YouTube. “Whether you love it – or just remember 2018 – the return should always be a feast for you. But 2020 was different. And it doesn’t feel right to go on like it isn’t. So we’re taking a break from Rewind this year. “

YouTube added, “We know that so much of the good that happened in 2020 was created by all of you. You found ways to uplift people, help them deal with it, and make them laugh. You really made a tough year better. Thank you for making a difference. “
